Father's day weekend at Big Hill

We went to Big Hill Lake Thursday night after work. The weather was typical Kansas Hot and Humid! Les and I got a few fishing jaunts in and the fish were biting good. On Saturday Morning a rain came up and we fished in the rain for 3 hours. All of our gear and US were soaked but the fish did not care and were biting stoneflys and green wiggle tail grubs fine. We fished at the base of the Rahe bridge and went east and the fish were there and wanted to bite. The swallows that were nesting under the bridge were a pretty sight as well.

Big ones, little ones and Burt the fishing dog

June 13 turned out to be a fine day of fishing. After a trip to the city to stock up on montana stone flys and beadhead wooly buggers we fished at Buffalo lake west of home. The fishing was real good. Caught tons of green bluegill and some bass. Burt even had a good time and inspected nearly every fish we caught. I caught the largest and Les got the prize for the smallest. The fish hit so hard they tore up two of my brand new bead head buggers. Fish were caught with white grubs on micro jigs, montana stone flys, wooly buggers and a top water spider that Les uses.

A Saturday fishing with my Grandson

This entry is way out of order but I just ran on to the two low quality phone photos that I took of the afternoon. Josh and I went to Elsmore to fish. It was way to windy to take the boat so we fished from the dock and from the fishing berms. Josh caught a couple bluegill on my ultra-lite rod. We had to take several breaks eating the rations we brought along. They consisted of coffee, Josh's favorite green "bug juice" pop, donuts and jerkey. I would not have missed this afternoon for anything and I am looking forward to the next one.

Back to Elsmore

June 7 2009 Elsmore lake was crowded like I have never seen it. There was a catfishing tournament going on and MAN there were a bunch of people fishing. We used micro jigs with green wiggle tails and black bead head wooly buggers and just slayed the green bluegills. Nearly every one caught looked like a cross between the pumpkinseed bluegill and the big mouthed green bluegill. They were some fun to catch. The wind was a fierce 20mph from the south but Les kept the boat where we could cast and we had a blast.

Labor Day weekend at Big Hill

The family gathered at Big Hill east of Cherryvale Kansas for the Labor Day weekend. Les and I got some fishing in although it was windy and the lake was rough. The fish bit fast and furious on 2 wt rods and line with micro-jigs and green or red grubs. We caught some nice bass, I caught a large black crappie and several nice sun perch and some green blugills.
