Buffalo Fishing

The weather was cool today and a breeze out of the north.
We picked up Les and headed for Buffalo for some toon boat fishing. The lake was muddy due to  two storms this week. The water was about 75 degrees at the surface. Les and Richard both caught tons of pumpkin seeds but no huge ones. They were scrappy. Richard caught one crappie off the rocks and I thought we might have found a school to fish. My sonar showed fish at several depths so I switched to a clouser to try to fish deeper. I caught a couple small gills shallow. No pictures today. I will order some flys from Yager this week. Fishing next week will be at Big Hill. We will go down Thursday night after work. de Paul

Fishing and Traveling

It has been a whirlwind time since I last wrote an entry. Ozarkon was a great time, the food was good and the speaker sessions were interesting.
A couple weeks later Richard and I went back to Branson for the Red Green show and had a blast. We had planned a couple extra days to fish below Table Rock dam for trout. On Monday after the show the storms had moved in and rained us out for the next 3 days so we headed home.
In another 2 weeks Toodles and I headed for our College trip. Washington DC was really cool and we saw most of the historic sights to be seen. After a 6 hour bus trip we were in New York to see all the sights there as well. The highlite of the trip was watching the Broadway play Mama Mia. It was GREAT!!!!! Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty were really neet to see.
Yesterday Richard and I went to Buffalo to do some fishing. We caught several nice pumpkin seeds and some greenies. Richard hooked a catfish and fought him for about 15 minutes on a 3 wt fly rod and 4X tippet..... The fishe's teeth finally wore through the tippet and he escaped. Richard did see a white flash once and it was BIG.

Some pictures are below of the trip and one of Richard fighting his fish.

Toodles aboard the Miss Liberty at Ellis Island

Saturday night on Broadway after Mama Mia
Here I found an Orvis store just off Broaway avenue. I wondered how far it was to trout water.
Richard fighting the fish yesterday. Look at the bend in his rod. I was worried that it might break before the tippet did.

Smith Men's Spring Campout

Les, Richard, Kile and Josh and me along with Big Mike King, his son Travis, Jeff and Michael Brown spent the weekend at Lake Fegan in Woodson County. It was a good time with lots of camp cooking and fishing. Most of the fisherman caught fish of one species or the other, I was SKUNKED! I had bites but no hook ups. The whole group are knife lovers so we did a pocket dump picture and it will come along when Les or Richard sends it to me. It was cool sleeping at night and the rains came Saturday. Jeff's record still stands..... He claims that every time he camps it rains. Rain and all we all had a good time. I will post from Ozarkcon later this week de Paul N0NBD

Blackie the Fishing Chicken and Buffalo Lake

The day was warm and Josh wanted to fish with us so..... We hooked to Les's boat and kicked to Buffalo. Richard and I were to fish on our toon boats, Les and Josh were going to fish in Les's boat. While launching Les's boat he discovered one of his "wild" chickens sitting a nest in the bow of the boat. A small hunk of string and a sweatshirt contained the chicken while we fished. Les reported the chicken clucked all the way across the lake to the east cove.
Good thing other fisherman did not hear... We would be the joke  of Buffalo.
Richard said I cannot crow about my catches today after my blog entry on small fish a while back. Below are a few pics. Richard was disapointed with several hookups and no catches. He was fishing in a new boat with a BRAND new 5 wt rod.

No radio but some fishing

There was fishing and no catching today. Les had a goat ready to have a baby so he stayed home. Richard and I went to Elk's Lake north of Chanute. There was a breeze when we started on the south end and the breeze quickly turned into 20 mph winds. We fished along the west side for a while and rowed across the lake looking at the bottom on the sonar. The wind pushed us 2/3 of the way to the north end. We landed and walked most of the way back to the truck. Along came a fellow Elk and we got a tailgated ride part way... It was a fun day.

Windy Saturday

Richard got his new Hummingbird Fishin Buddy for his toon boat. We headed for Buffalo lake so he could try it out. The wind was out of the east and made fishing tough. I had a few bites and even had a small one hooked for a few seconds. I did not manage to land him though. it was a fun time in the sun. de Paul N0NBD

It has been a few days.

My new Case Trapper pattern knife came in the mail today.  A week or so ago I ordered a new Case Trapper knife. My friend Jeff at work traded/loaned me a nifty sheath for it. I will carry it tomorrow for the first time.
The weekend was good but no pictures were taken.
Les came in Sunday and we went Geocacheing at Elsmore. We looked for a LONGGGGG time for the cache and never found it. Later in the day we found out the cache was missing in action and will have to be replaced. Oh well we will have another hunt there some day. We did find a cache at a cemetary west and south of the lake that was cool.
Here is a picture of my new knife. More later de Paul N0NBD
